Hey guys so me and you, and you and me, we all love Potato Chips that’s a fact. But you know what else is a fact? Its that this delectable, crunchy, salty food we call Chips are actually highly cancerous.
Why you ask? You see one of the most hazardous ingredients in potato chips is not intentionally added, but rather is a byproduct of the processing.
“Acrylamide, a cancer-causing and potentially neurotoxic chemical, is created when carbohydrate-rich foods are cooked at high temperatures, whether baked, fried, roasted, or toasted. Some of the worst offenders include potato chips and French fries, but many foods cooked or processed at temperatures above 212°F (100°C) may contain acrylamide. As a general rule, the chemical is formed when food is heated enough to produce a fairly dry and brown/yellow surface. Hence, it can be found in:
Potatoes: chips, French fries, and other roasted or fried potato foods
Grains: bread crust, toast, crisp bread, roasted breakfast cereals, and various processed snacks
Coffee: roasted coffee beans and ground coffee powder. Surprisingly, coffee substitutes based on chicory actually contains 2-3 times MORE acrylamide than real coffee[s]“
Acrylamide is an Industrial Chemical usually used in making Dyes, Papers, Plastic and is also used in treating water. You might be asking if its used in treating water then how can that make it bad for us? Well you see the federal limit for acrylamide in drinking water is 0.5 parts per billion, or about 0.12 micrograms in an eight-ounce glass of water. Chips can contain 60 micrograms which is about 500 times more than what is allowed.
Now we all know baking is better than frying right? Wrong, well in the case of Chips and fries its wrong. Baked chips actually have 3 times more Acrylamide than when fried so keep that in mind.
So guys basically we should try to cut down intake of these types of foods. I know its hard Its hard for me too but we have to for our health. There goes my dreams of swimming in a pool of potato chips down the drain 😥
